A unique atmosphere
The first few days, it rained. There was a strange ambiance in the tents where you eat BBQ and grilled sausages while listening to music.
Then when the sun came out, everything lit up!
Everywhere there were open-top buses filled with people dancing, trailers, drink stands, food trucks, street carts?
Everywhere there were colorful costumes, giant teddy bears, naked women, dancers, wild partyers, gangstas with boom boxes on their shoulders? Music and movement become almost permanent phenomena.
1 festival, 3 worlds
The mix of music, film and digital cultures create an incredibly unique atmosphere, but maybe not ?weird? as the city?s motto states, but rather decidedly animated.
Lots of students from local universities like UT Austin were in town to take advantage of their spring break. Every bar was taking part, offering free live music.
Every terrace was packed with people. Arms were waving, flailing and battling with each other.
On every street corner, you meet a funny person with green or pink hair mastering their unique style, handing out fun goodies like backpacks filled with water bottles, chewing gum or anti-hangover pills.
The green man
I put myself in the middle of the action and walked around to the most attractive individuals to me.
In the Hilton’s salons, where most of the startup conferences were taking place, there were a lot of people, startups, and tech guys in disguises.
I went up to a guy? disguised in green. He ended up being the legendary grinch spreading sadness but dreaming secretly of [email protected]
A useful object
A bit later, a man wearing a strange object caught my attention: a sort of snake that allowed him to hold his iPad – or an iPhone – hands-free.
What the heck was that?? XFLEX!
How is it to create a startup in a bus?
I met Ray in a Hilton room as well.
